Oxygen chemisorption on Au nanoparticles
Oxygen molecules do not adsorb on flat gold surfaces at room temperature, but recent experimental results have demonstrated adsorption of oxygen on small, negatively charged gold nanoparticles. Here we report first-principles density functional calculations of oxygen adsorption on neutral and charged Aun nanoparticles. We find that: (i) Oxygen molecules chemisorb on Aun clusters, with typical b...
متن کاملOxygen reduction catalyzed by gold nanoclusters supported on carbon nanosheets.
Nanocomposites based on p-mercaptobenzoic acid-functionalized gold nanoclusters, Au102(p-MBA)44, and porous carbon nanosheets have been fabricated and employed as highly efficient electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Au102(p-MBA)44 clusters were synthesized via a wet chemical approach, and loaded onto carbon nanosheets. Pyrolysis at elevated temperatures led to effective remova...
متن کاملMaximum hydrogen chemisorption on KL zeolite supported Pt clusters.
Platinum clusters supported on KL zeolites were characterized by EPR, HRTEM, and EXAFS. Two kinds of hydrogen chemisorption experiments both result in a saturation value of 2.9 hydrogen atoms per platinum atom, significantly more than that reported so far. A hydrogen coverage-dependent cluster restructuring is suggested.
متن کاملMolecular Adsorption Changes the Quantum Structure of Oxide-Supported Gold Nanoparticles: Chemisorption versus Physisorption.
STM conductance spectroscopy and mapping has been used to analyze the impact of molecular adsorption on the quantized electronic structure of individual metal nanoparticles. For this purpose, isophorone and CO2, as prototype molecules for physisorptive and chemisorptive binding, were dosed onto monolayer Au islands grown on MgO thin films. The molecules attach exclusively to the metal-oxide bou...
متن کاملChemisorption sites of CO on small gold clusters and transitions from chemisorption to physisorption.
Gold clusters adsorbed with CO, Au(m)(CO)(n) (-) (m=2-5; n=0-7), were studied by photoelectron spectroscopy (PES). The first few CO adsorptions were observed to induce significant redshifts to the PES spectra relative to pure gold clusters. For each Au cluster, a critical CO number (n(c)) was observed, beyond which the PES spectra of Au(m)(CO)(n) (-) change very little with increasing n. n(c) w...
